It provides a fact-based correction to the revisionist history that became orthodoxy in the mid-20th century, when politicized historians, members of what Thompson calls the Political-Historical Complex, replaced the “rights” revolution that Sam Adams launched in 1765 with a reform movement that mirrored their own visions for a socially just and equitable society.
